Experience the timeless beauty and mindfulness of Japanese tea culture through our carefully curated four-part workshop series.

Dates: June 8, July 13, August 3 & August 10
Time: 1:00 pm (75 minutes)
Location: Kosaka, 220 West 13th Street, NYC
Price: $60 per session

Join us for a four-part workshop series that gently invites you into the heart of Japanese tradition through the quiet ritual of matcha.

Each 75-minute session explores a unique element of The Way of Tea (Japanese tea ceremony), offering not only hands-on practice in preparing matcha but also thoughtful insight into its cultural and aesthetic meaning.

This is more than a class—it’s a moment to slow down, reconnect with the present, and deepen your appreciation for the beauty of Japanese traditions. After each session, you’ll leave feeling refreshed, grounded, and inspired.

What You’ll Experience:

  • High-Quality Matcha
Savor premium matcha from Uji, Kyoto, known for its vibrant color, rich umami, and grounding energy.

  • Special Tea Bowls
Use a handcrafted chawan by ceramic artist Kifumi Kawamura from Kamakura, created in a traditional climbing kiln once used by Rosanjin Kitaoji.

  • Sweet Pairings
Enjoy traditional Japanese sweets and refined Western-style sweets, thoughtfully chosen to harmonize with the matcha.

Individual Workshop Descriptions:

June 8 at 1 pm— Workshop 1: The Art of the Tea Bowl -WORKSHOP ENDED

July 13 at 1 pm: Workshop 2: An Essential Tool for Tea – The Tea Whisk -WORKSHOP ENDED

August 3 at 1 pm: Workshop 3: The Charm of Urushi

Urushi (Japanese lacquer) brings timeless elegance and quiet strength to daily life. Once so revered, it was called “Japan.” This art & craft continues to enrich both art and everyday objects. In this session, you’ll explore its history, care, and unique beauty. Urushi is also used in Kintsugi, the art of mending broken ceramics with gold—a brief introduction will be included.

August 10 at 1 pm: Workshop 4: The Way of Tea and Zen

The final workshop returns to the essence of chanoyu: stillness, awareness, and gratitude. We’ll explore the Zen philosophy that underpins the way of tea (known as the tea ceremony) through silence, seasonal sweets, and tea shared in the presence. This is a gentle and soulful conclusion to the summer series, inviting you to carry the spirit of tea into your everyday life.
